A couple of weekends ago we went to the seaside. I haven’t been to the seaside for AGES, it’s not too close to here, but goodness me, I do love being beside the sea!
We took our folding bikes to Bridlington, and cycled along the seafront. We ate fried things in cafes, and picnics on benches – still wrapped up warm, it’s true, but how lovely to be outside and feel (relatively) warm.
We love our folding bikes. Somehow being on a foldy bike is FAR more cheerful than being on a normal bike. They’re easy to get on and off, fun to ride, and people often shout nice things at you as you go by. On this trip, some kids shouted ‘wow! Those bikes are BRILLIANT! They look like they’re out of a cereal box!’
After a not-as-bad-as-you’d-think-but-still-not-great night sleeping in the car (it’s got a bed in it, honest!), we went to Filey for breakfast.
It was still early, and there weren’t many people round as we ate our scones on the beach, but it was quite exciting to watch the (practice) launch of the lifeboat.
Obviously there was a fair bit of messing about with the panorama setting on the camera (there always is). No idea where that dog came from.
Have you been to the seaside lately? Where is your favourite seaside? Maybe you’re lucky enough to live there!
If you’re up our way again, worth checking out Bempton Cliffs – RSPB site with lots of puffins, gannets and other interesting birds. Also Hornsea Mere has various visiting birds plus all the usual ducks, gulls and geese. Look at your map and try and visit North Cave Wetlands on your way – avocets, little grebes, all the usual ducks, great crested grebes and a brilliant snack bar to keep you going!
Thanks Barbara! I’ve been to Bempton Cliffs before, tis lovely up there. Peter grew up on that side of the country, so it’s often the first place we head for on a seaside day trip. I’ve been to Hornsea, but not sure about Hornsea mere, will investigate, thank you!
I Love Filey and surrounding area (Brid, and Scarborough) but especially Whitby. Try to get the there for a few days at least once a year. Also love the Lake District (can that count?) xx
Absolutely. I’m pretty sure there’s a beach or two over there, even if it’s on the edge of a lake 🙂 We love Whitby too, went there this time last year in a little cottage on the edge of the river, twas lovely!
Your post reminded me how lucky I am to live on the coast. I lived in London for years, always wishing I could live by the sea, and funnily enough, when my whole life fell apart, I got my wish. I love it here (East Sussex) and wouldn’t want to move back.
Oooh, you live by the sea? I’m so jealous!
I went to the seaside at the weekend, just overnight, with 3 small boys and my friend to help. We had a lovely time, although we both took today off work to recover. Must be our age!!
I would have thought it had more to do with the lack of sleep! Hope you all had a lovely time… (where’s my postcard??)
Sorry, forgot postcard in the chaos but have sent photos x
