for today

I’m joining in with The Simple Woman’s Daybook today, prompted by the lovely Fay – pop over there and see who else is too!

Outside my window… the stars are twinkling. Last night a beautiful cresent moon hung low in the sky.

I am thinking… just how good being asleep is

I am thankful… for my upcoming four-day weekend, and very excited about not setting the alarm for tomorrow

In the kitchen… a band rehearsal. Harp and guitar drifting up the stairs.

I am wearing… bedsocks and a fluffy dressing gown. Don’t let anybody tell you I’m not glamourous.

I am creating… order out of chaos. Slowly.

I am going… to an 80th birthday party tomorrow. Eighty years old! Just imagine that. This particular 80-year-old is inspirational – interesting and interested, always enthusiastic about people and flowers and growing, changing her community and surrounding herself with friends. May we all be like her at any age.

I am reading… Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel. It’s been months since I got lost in a novel, and I’m enjoying this one very much.

I am looking forward to… a holiday! In just a few short weeks. I’m all for delayed gratification but this date was set at short notice and I am thrilled at having an unexpected holiday so soon.

I am learning… about myself. About my love of learning, where I am willing to compromise (and where I’m not), just how much I can travel without turning into a raging angry bear.

Around the house… some things are in their rightful place, but most are not. Clothes are washed but not put away. The hoover lies discarded on the landing. Many bags are ‘in between’ – waiting to be taken upstairs or downstairs.

I am pondering… just how those people who have tidy houses manage it. I’m almost scared to know what’s involved.

A favourite quote for today… from the bathroom on the train earlier ‘Please don’t flush nappies, sanitary towels, paper towels, gum, old phones, unpaid bills, junk mail, your ex’s sweater, hopes, dreams or goldfish down this toilet’

One of my favourite things… going to bed early while it’s still light outside. I didn’t manage that today of course, but in a few months…

A few plans for the rest of the week… a run in the woods. A women’s bike ride. An 80th birthday party. A trip to Leeds. Watching a friend in a ballet show. Exciting times.

What are you planning for the weekend? If you fancy joining in, pop over to The Simple Woman’s Daybook.

Lovely šŸ™‚ I’ve got into Hilary Mantel lately (recently read Fludd and The Giant, O’Brien – both really good) – I must give Wolf Hall a go.

My weekend, um, I’m dancing in a ballet show šŸ˜‰
